The Science of Soft Washing

The Problem

What may appear to be dirt on the exterior your home is actually microbes, algae, mildew, mold, fungus, moss, lichen, bacteria, and viruses. One of the most common bacterias found on roofs is gloecapsa magma. Gloecapsa magma is a species of cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are an ancient line of photosynthesizing bacteria, which photolyze water generating oxygen gas. Nature uses these bacteria, algae, mold, mildew, and lichens to decompose large objects into smaller objects to eventually become soils and dirts. Left untreated, these decomposers can cause damage to your roof and home.

These infestations can also affect the health of your family. Mold, mildew, fungus, and algae are among the most common environmental allergens. Your home can become infested with these irritants, which can affect the health of both your home and your family.

The Solution

The Upkeep Team, Inc. uses softwash technology on homes, buildings, and roofs to treat these infestations while also sanitizing the surfaces we are cleaning. We sanitize surfaces using the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) prescribed methods.

Soft washing is the alternative to pressure washing. The Upkeep Team, Inc. uses waterbased, biodegradable chemicals to emulsify dirt and grime, break down insect nests and webs, and kill mold, mildew, algae, and bacteria. Rather than simply move the infestations from one area to another, The Upkeep Team, Inc. treats and kills the infestations.

Soft washing uses one-third the water of pressure washing, lasts four to six times longer, and does not erode the surface like pressure washing can.
